On July 23, 2026, John Miles, a father, friend, and beloved member of the Newport community was returning home after singing in St. Ann Square in Downtown Newport, something he did every day and was widely known and loved for. While crossing Memorial Blvd in the crosswalk, in his handicap‑accessible wheelchair, he was struck by a drunk driver. The impact launched him from his seat and sent him nearly thirty feet through the air. John was air lifted from Newport Hospital that night. Despite every effort to save him, he succumbed to his injuries on July 24, 2026.

John was not just a father of one, he was a father figure to five step‑children and a surrogate father to others who were shaped by his love. He leaves behind a large family of brothers, sisters, grandchildren ,relatives, friends, and community members who cherished him deeply. His family sincerely appreciate every call, wellness check, and condolence shared during this heartbreaking time. Your support reminds them how many lives John touched and how deeply he will be missed.

John spent his final day, his birthday, doing what he loved most: singing and performing for others. It was the way he connected, the way he gave, and the way he filled the world with joy right up to his very last moments.

The man responsible for John’s death is being held accountable, but accountability brings little comfort when a life as full as his is taken away. John was vibrant, loving, and full of purpose. He had so much more to give to his family, his community, and the world around him. This tragedy is a painful reminder of the devastating consequences of drunk driving. One irresponsible choice can end a life, shatter a family, and change a community forever. We are all part of this world, and every person is valuable to someone.

As his loved ones navigate this heartbreaking loss, they hold tight to the love John shared so freely and the joy he brought into the world every single day.
